Property Taxes
The tax amount on your combined Tax and Assessment Notice is for taxes levied for the current year.  The Tax and Assessment Notice for the Town of Spirit River are mailed out at the end of June and are due by August 31 each year.

If payment of taxes is not received by the due date, a penalty of 5% will be levied against any remaining unpaid taxes after that. A second penalty of 13% (13 percent) will be levied against any remaining unpaid taxes in October.  Any outstanding arrears will receive a penalty of 18% (18 percent) on January 1 of the following year.

Any outstanding arrears after two (2) years will be subject to the Tax Recovery Process.

The Town of Spirit River property taxes may consist of municipal and educational taxes, Grande Spirit Foundation, and Recreation Tax.

Payment Options

  • We accept in person payments with cash, debit, cheque, or credit card using Paysimply (adds an additional fee) Between the hours of 8:30 am – 4:30 pm (Closed 12-1 pm)
  • Online banking or in-branch payments with ATB, RBC, Scotiabank, or Credit Unions only
  • Residents can use PaySimply™, a secure, third-party Canadian payment provider to pay your property taxes online using a credit card, Interac e-Transfer, or PayPal.  You can also pay in-person with cash or debit at any Canada Post location. PaySimply applies a convenience fee to cover payment handling and processing charges which is added to the total amount paid. All fees are paid to PaySimply and the Township does not retain any portion of the fee. Please allow up to 3 business days for processing.
  • Online through our Town website (green button on top right corner of home page) with credit card through PaySimply (adds an additional fee)
  • Mail: PO Box 130, Spirit River, AB T0H 3G0
  • Drop Box (located at the front doors of the Town Office)
  • TIPPS Program (monthly payment plan set up through the Town Office)
