Do you have a leak?

If your utility bill seems to slowly be on the rise you may have a leak. Often times a leak can go undetected for months. Here are some simple suggestions to see if you have a leak:

1) Just before you go to bed at night, read your water meter and record the read. The following morning, before turning on a tap or flushing the toilet, read your water meter again. The read should be the same as the night before. If there is a difference, you likely have a leak.

2) Again, Just before you go to bed at night, place some food coloring in your toilet tank(s) making the water a bright color. The next morning check the color of the tank, if it is clear, you have a leak.

This insert is not a substitute for professional advice but merely intended as some simple suggestions to test for leaks in your home. If you have a leak, we recommend you call a plumber to remedy the problem.
